Long rear family garden
A mature and established garden that was in need of some updating to reflect this growing family's needs. The house is a stones throw from Chester Zoo, and had previously been owned by the daughter of the zoo's founder. As such it has a fantastic fundamental structure of layout and planting, as well as a few quirky features including a cast iron lamp post from the zoo.
However, a new extension meant the existing layout wasn't making the best use of the space near to the house, and the outbuildings were no longer fit for purpose. The new owners wanted to create two separate parts to the garden - a larger, more useable, terrace area by the house with the existing lawn leading to a more intimate space for evening drinks and relaxing in the summer. It was important to ensure the space was an inclusive as possible, taking into account the range of mobility requirements from visitors. Work on site finished shortly before Christmas 2019, so more photos will follow in spring and summer of 2020 once the planting has started to establish. |
